While I feel the sport suspension on the A4 is a nice setup, it is not really
as "sporty" as I would like, so things need to change. Around my birthday, I
found that I had a little extra money to throw at Audrey. After some thought,
I decided that the 19mm rear sway bar would be a nice mod, as I had heard good
things about it from other A4/S4 owners. I found there was a group buy going on
through Eric at Supreme Power Parts (
http://www.supremepowerparts.com, so I got it at a decent price, even though
it was on national backorder. (To see all the pics jump over here)

I came home from work to a nice Neuspeed box, and so I unpacked to check out my new
toy. Fun times! The parts were all there, and the instructions looked easy enough.

A call over to fellow Audiworld'er LarryV got me time on a lift and some install experience.
We threw the car up and started to check it out. The stock bar looks REALLY small. (It was
raining, so the car is a bit dirty)

The first step is the removal of the stock bar. This consists of removing the 2 end bolts. Hold
the screw in place with a 2mm allen key and loosen the bar with a wrench. Once each side is off,
remove the screws holding the bar up in the middle. Easy. Then pop it off just like the instructions
say. Done.

It is easy to see the increased size of the new bar, not to mention it is significantly prettier
than the dirty stock bar. The stock bar is 15mm or 16mm, depending who you listen to.

I chose the firm setting (the inner hole) and the install of the new bar is just like the
removal of the stock bar, save for the installation of the support brackets. When you see the
metal that the bar connects to, you will understand the brackets.

The brackets install easily, check the pictures for a better idea of what goes where, but it is
really easy. Reuse the brackets that cover the bushing, throw some of the included grease into
the bushing, and screw everything in. Done. Some of the bolts are sort of tight to reach, but
I have big hands and I could get all of them. Tighten everything up, and lower the car. Finshed!

It was raining when LarryV and I went out to play, but I could feel it even before I was pushing
it... It had dried up a bit by the time I headed back into the city, and I was able to hit all 4
turns on a couple of cloverleaf offramps... fun times! Much more level, and the car feels much
more confident bombing the corners. I can carry MUCH more speed into corners, and it feels much
more connected. The increased oversteer is present, but not a problem at all. I am still careful
in the wet stuff, as I haven't found all the limits yet. Overall, the value of the mod has been
great, as I can feel it and it affects so much of daily driving. Fun times! I highly recommend it.
Now all I need to do is eliminate some of the dive and squat and everything will be great. Springs
next? We shall see...
