In Europe, where, of course, the Audi is from, the laws about lighting and reflectors is different. In the US, cars are required to have an amber reflector located near the front corner of the car, viewable from the side. While I appreciate the thought, I prefer the European look, where there is no front/side amber reflector. With that in mind, I decided to do the clear corner mod, as it is commonly referred to, per the FAQ on Audiworld.com.
The first step is to remove the headlight units from the car. My family was a little concerned that I was taking out my xenon headlights on my 1 week old car.
Then, with the units out of the car, you take out the bulbs, (I couldn't get the xenon ones out, so I left them in) and pull out the drill. Turns out, the reflector is held in by 2 plastic tabs, so you just have to drill those tabs out, slide the reflector out of the corner, and break it into small parts to pull through the bulb holes. Easy!
It took me a while to get the first one out, but the second one came really easy, once I got it down. Then, using compressed air, I cleared out as many of the little bit of reflector as I could, sealed the holes with automotive goop, replaced the bulbs, and screwed it back into the car. Easy mod, good looking result, and very little money spent.
Overall, I am quite happy. I could do a better job now, having done it once, but whatever. You can see a few scratches when you look at it up close, and there are still a few bits of plastic in there, but I think they look great. A much smoother look, especially on the silver car. See all the pics in the gallery. Remember, try this at your own risk.
